Abstract
Fracture, failure and performance of concrete and other materials are included in this Mini-symposium beginning with a keynote paper by Balaguru and Chong on failure mechanics of cement based materials. The following are titles of proposed 6 sessions: Cohesive Zone Analysis for Fracture in Micro- and Nano- Materials and Structures; Durability of Concrete; Performance of Retrofitted Concrete and Masonry Elements; Fractures and Failures of Geomaterials; and Modeling of Fracture and Failure in Geomaterials

Abstract
Studies during failure analysis of land, rail and air transportation often require a broad engineering approach to single out specific mechanisms that are the root cause of an accident. From fractographic analysis to stress and strain calculations, different knowledge-based instruments are employed to determine the failure cause. This mini-symposium tends to congregate experts in the various disciplines of forensic failure analysis as well as those experts in maintenance and monitoring technologies to minimize failure occurrences.
