Abstract
Because concrete structures are no longer referred to as maintenance-free, evaluation of deterioration and damage in concrete on the basis of fracture processes is in practical demand. Consequently, quantitative techniques for nondestructive evaluation of concrete are extensively investigated. In this special session, research achievements on deterioration due to corrosion of reinforcing steel bars, damage estimation by acoustic emission (AE) and identification of cracks by impact-echo and ultrasonics are presented and discussed for quantitative and nondestructive monitoring of concrete structures.
