Its economic development also conforms to the redevelopment
of its physical space. A vast series of interventions have been
planned and started, aimed at integrating the citys rich history
and the renewed exigencies of service agility. Besides being easily
accessible from outside, great urban reforms are been realised in
Turins territory: renewal of the infrastructures and new construction
works, redevelopment of the historical centre and revitalisation
of the suburbs, doubling of the public parks and gardens, and the
enhancement of the citys characteristic river environment.

Thanks to its favourable geographical position (Turin is at the foot
of the Alps, and just 45 minutes away from 375 miles of ski slopes, known
to skiers worldwide) and to the great professionalism of its services
and its integrated productive system, Turin and its region presented themselves
on the world scenario to compete for the adjudication of the Winter Olympic
Games in 2006. Its candidacy was successful, so from now on the city and
its territory will be preparing to accommodate this world event: indeed,
new structures and services will be planned and built, such as hotels,
restaurants, sports facilities etc., which will contribute to increasing
Turins capacity for visitor hospitality.
Productive system
Turin can boast its important productive systems on the world market:
besides the Fiat Group, there are important car design companies like
Pininfarina, Bertone, Italdesign Giugiaro and Dayco, Alenia in aerospace
engineering and also important firms in the food and drinks sector
Lavazza (international leader in the coffee market), Cinzano and Martini
& Rossi (production of sparkling wines and liqueurs), Ferrero, Caffarel
and Peyrano (confectionery of the highest quality).
